Syke's warbler

Possibly the most challenging species we saw during our fortnight and a cause for much discussion.

Although Lake Kyzylkol is apparently a good site for Syke's warbler we didn't see any during our few days there until our final morning when one was found.  The identification of this bird was fair from straight forward with no single features ruling out either booted or Syke's.

'Professor Baxter' with the help of Svensson
is it... or isn't it a Syke's!

The real Professor Andrei and Paul still wondering is it?... or isn't? a Syke's

It was…
Syke's warbler Lake Kyzylkol 9 September 2013.

Another bird at Chokpak on 13 September was even less obvious.

Whatever people say about them, they are not easy...
